A man was taken into custody and is being questioned by FBI agents in connection with a Wednesday morning bank robbery.

More than 20 officers surrounded an apartment complex with guns drawn after an investigation led them to a man that they said may have robbed a U.S. Bank along Southwest Hall and First streets at about 11:30 a.m.

Police said they brought in officers from Washington County's Tactical Negotiation Team with high-powered assault riffles because a person of interest was holed-up inside one of the apartments.

Police said they tried to contact the man inside the apartment but he never responded.

Officers said they weren't sure whether the man was armed so they decided to play it safe and blocked off the area around the apartment.

"I stayed in my apartment for a while and then I heard a bang at my door and then I came out and they said they didn't want anybody to accidentally get shot in case that's what happened and that they were looking for the guy upstairs," said a neighbor named Hailey.

Beaverton police towed away a black car from the apartment complex that they said may have been used as a getaway car.

Officers said it doesn't appear the man was armed. The FBI won't release his name and said investigators will continue to question him.
