Police Say Fugitive Missing For Months

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Police said they're looking for a man who stopped checking in with his parole officer.Ivan Smith was living with his aunt, Christine Broussard, in North Portland for almost three years after he was released from prison. She said he was keeping up with his parole officer until March when he disappeared."(He) didn't come back. I don't know where he went," Broussard said. "This is post-prison stuff that he needed to do and he was doing it, but then I guess he just got tired of trying to do it all the time."She said she was trying to help him get on the right track, hoping he would change his life."I was hoping that if someone showed him some kind of kindness that that would help him get his life together," Broussard said.Ivan Smith has several convictions for attempted burglary and theft, and in 1999 he was sentenced to six years for attempted rape and sex abuse of a 14 –year-old girl, police said."I wish he would turn himself around. I know that he's going to have to do jail time," Broussard said.She said she knows that Smith can still turn his life around and hopes he'll comes to his senses."I want you to turn yourself in Ivan. I still love you regardless of everything that's been done. I Still love you," Broussard said.Ivan's aunt said she thinks he may have gone some place in Washington state but she doesn't know where he his.Anyone with information about Smith's whereabouts should call local police.
