Deputies arrested a man Friday after a two-hour search that briefly closed Interstate 5, causing lengthy delays, Sgt. Mike Cooke said.

Clark County deputies were looking for Howard Whipple, 75, in connection with a domestic violence incident that happened on Thursday, Cooke said.

Whipple left his home before deputies arrived, and they weren't able to locate him until a deputy saw him walking through a field near the southbound exit ramp at about 11 a.m. Friday, Cooke said.

Deputies brought in K-9 units to help search the brush in the area and they found and arrested Whipple at about 1 p.m.

Interstate 5 was closed in both directions for less than 30 minutes because deputies feared Whipple might try to run across the road, Cooke said.

He was arrested on charges of felony harassment and attempted arson.
