Sherwood Police Cite 16 On Fireworks Charges

SHERWOOD, Ore. -- Police issued 16 tickets for illegal fireworks offenses in Sherwood over the Fourth of July weekend.The city of Sherwood planned to have additional officers on duty specifically to deal with illegal fireworks on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight each night.Those officers responded to about 25 calls regarding illegal fireworks. They seized hundreds of dollars worth of illegal fireworks that were handed over to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue officials to be destroyed.In 2008, Sherwood police also responded to about 25 calls regarding illegal fireworks but only issued 12 citations.
