Deputies Say Man Peered Into 14-Year-Old's Window

A man was arrested early Thursday morning after neighbors tackled him when they spotted him peeping into a teen's window, deputies said.

Dispatchers received a 911 call at about 2 a.m. from a mother who told them she'd seen a man in a dark hooded sweatshirt looking into her 14-year-old daughter's window, Detective Jim Strovink said.

While deputies were responding, the girl's father and a neighbor from across the street crept up and tried to apprehend the man, which resulted in a scuffle that injured one of the men, Strovink said.

Jeff, the father of the 14-year-old, said they found Paul Cameron Klick, 43, with a camera around his neck outside his daughter's window.

"I first got a hold of him against that gate right there," Jeff said. "Then he laid on the ground right here and I had him down on all fours."

While the men were detaining the suspect, who was later identified as Klick, deputies responded and arrested the man, Strovink said.

Klick is a father of three who lives in a house less than 200 feet from Jeff's home, deputies said. Jeff said he and his wife were incredibly shocked because for the last two years their daughter has babysat for Klick's family.

"The fact that it's someone in our own neighborhood that's a family man that's doing these horrible things to young children, I just want everyone to be aware you have to protect yourself first," Jeff said.

Investigators said they believe the man has been peering into windows for as many as 10 years. Jeff and his wife said they've suspected that someone had been peeping into their home because they'd seen tracks in the flower beds.

"We knew he was coming around 'cause we rake the dirt," Traci said.

Traci said she often watched for tracks in her flower beds and for the last year and she'd spent many sleepless nights looking out for the peeping tom but said she never saw anyone until last night.

"I just had a feeling someone was out in front of her window," Traci said.

The couple said other neighbors have reported seeing hands and arms reaching into windows and that some suspect a peeping tom has broken into their homes.

Klick's mother said her son is innocent and that it's normal for people to be out at night watching for meteor showers.

Klick was cited on one charge of invasion of personal privacy, which is a misdemeanor, and released.

The man injured in the fight suffered injuries to a knee, an elbow and nose and was expected to seek further medical assistance.

Clackamas deputies said they've searched Klick's home and are still gathering evidence against him.

Anyone with information in the case should contact the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office's confidential tip line at 503-723-4949.
