VERNONIA, Ore. -- A rollover Jeep crash injured three children and led to the arrest of their father Wednesday night near Vernonia.State troopers said they arrested Michael Pihl, who has been featured in the History Channel TV show "Ax Men," after he lost control of his Jeep on his private driveway. The Jeep rolled onto its top and pinned Pihl's 3-year-old boy between the roll bar and the ground, said Lt. Gregg Hastings in a state police news release.A LifeFlight helicopter rushed the boy to Legacy Emanuel Hospital to be treated for a head injury. Meanwhile, Pihl and his two daughters, ages 3 and 5, were taken to a hospital by ambulance to be treated for minor injuries.Three-year-old Mathias Pihl is in fair condition. His sisters have been released.None of the children were wearing seat belts at the time of the wreck, state police said.Troopers also said alcohol was involved in the crash, which led police to arrest Pihl on charges of assault and recklessly endangering another person. Pihl has since bailed out of jail and will make his first court appearance Sept. 14.The crash happened at about 8 p.m. on Pihl's property on Nehalem Highway. State police troopers, Columbia County deputies, Vernonia police and Vernonia firefighters all responded to the report of the crash and injuries.Friends of Pihl were cutting firewood on his property Thursday afternoon. They said they saw him about two hours before the accident."It sounds very uncommon that something like this would happen," said Ramon Dow. "Mike is a stand-up guy in this entire region. That doesn't sound right to me, especial since his children are involved because he's a very, very good family man."No one answered the door at Pihl's house Thursday or at the logging business office near Vernonia.
