PORTLAND, Ore. -- Two men inspecting windows at a southeast Portland home may be responsible for a burglary that occurred two days later.Bill Lee said two strangers claimed to work for Champion Windows, a legitimate national company with a Portland office, when they were at his home near Southeast 199th Avenue and Flavel Street last Sunday. On Tuesday, Lee said he found his home trashed. Thieves stole rare coins, jewelry and $13,000 from his safe. Lee said the burglars broke in through a door and used tools from his garage to break into his safe."I had it bolted to the floor," he said. "Evidently, it wasn't as safe as I thought it was."A local manager from Champion Windows said the company's employees never go door-to-door in search of a sale. Lee believes the men were imposters. After the burglary, Lee called pawn shops and Portland police in hopes of finding the rare coins, two of which were a 1972 dollar coin and a 1920 minted $2 bill. So far, no arrests have been made and the stolen loot has not been recovered."It tears at your heart," Lee said. "It really does."Anyone with information is asked to call Portland police.
