A 16-year-old girl struck by a minivan in Brush Prairie remained in critical condition Tuesday night.

The crash happened in the 11900 block of Northeast 212th Avenue just after 6 p.m. on Monday.

Clark County sheriff's deputies said the victim had just stepped out of a car and began to cross the street behind the car. She was immediately struck by a minivan driven by 47-year-old Luisa DePaiva of Hockinson.

Deputies said the impact threw the girl onto the hood of a second minivan, driven by 34-year-old Seta Timbreza.

Tim Bruning, who lives nearby, said he heard the crash.

"It had a strange sound. It wasn't like two cars colliding. It had a strange sound to it," Bruning said.

The two minivans involved collided after the girl was hit, authorities said. The girl, whose name hasn't been released, was rushed to Southwest Washington Medical Center and later taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.

Speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
