GRESHAM, Ore. -- Police say a man is facing charges after he fired a gun in a Gresham park Tuesday night then barricaded himself in his apartment with his 3-year-old daughter.Gresham police said Michael Johns was angry after a fight with his ex-wife when he and his friend went to the park across the street and fired the gun.Neighbors near the Park Side Apartments on Palmquist Road called 911.When police officers arrived, they said Johns would not come out of his apartment.Officers knew he was inside with his daughter and, because he had a loaded gun, police said they had to force their way in and him into custody.Neighbors were surprised to learn the loud noises were gunshots."Luckily, even in this day and age, your first thought isn't to think that something like that is going on, especially so close to you. I've got a 6-year-old son and a family and everything like that," said Sarah Percival, who heard gunshots.Johns is facing charges of assault, menacing, unlawful discharge of a firearm and interfering with police, police said.
