PORTLAND, Ore. -- A local woman will be getting a new face, 10 years after an accidental shotgun blast severely injured her.Chrissy Steltz was 16 at the time of the accident, which occurred in March 1999.Doctors at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland have created a prosthesis for Steltz that will have glass eyes, eyelashes, cheeks and a nose.Steltz had the first of three surgeries Wednesday and will eventually receive the face prosthesis, which will attach to titanium dental implants.Although the accident took away Steltz's sight and sense of smell and taste, it hasn't dampened her spirits."It took those things from me but, however, in the end, I'm not left with nothing. I still do great every day. In the end, I think, I got it better. This surgery honestly feels like just the end to a long process," Steltz said. She said the past 10 years haven't been easy, but the injury hasn't slowed her down.Steltz said her proudest accomplishment is her 2-month-old baby boy.
