State Police: Motorcycle Driver Lost Control On Curve Near Cannon Beach

CANNON BEACH, Ore. -- A Seattle man died Wednesday after his motorcycle slid underneath a pickup truck on Highway 101 near Cannon Beach, state police said.Alan Gelvin, 55, was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Highway 101 about one mile south of Cannon Beach when he lost control on a sharp curve, said Lt. Gregg Hastings of the Oregon State Police in a news release.Gelvin slid into the northbound lane and went underneath a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, Hastings said.He was pronounced dead at the scene, Hastings said.The pickup's driver, 62-year-old Edward Jones, of Scappoose, was unable to steer away from the motorcycle, Hastings said.Jones and his wife, Carol Jones, were taken to a nearby hospital.Highway 101 was closed during the investigation.
