KALAMA, Wash. -- A two-alarm fire destroyed a Kalama building that houses a market and a seafood restaurant on Sunday, officials said.Firefighters were called to the Good Day Market and Kimmi's Alaskan Grill on North First Street just after 2:30 p.m. Cowlitz Fire District Five Capt. Terry Sinkler said the building was undergoing construction at the time. The fire produced a large plume of smoke that could be seen from several streets away. Sinkler said it mostly burned in an attic, but also damaged the main floor."(There were) big black barrels of smoke and a fireman ran from the firehouse down the street, running up to it, smashing some windows and then it exploded," one witness said. "He smashed the windows and it came at him and he (stepped) back."The building remained standing Sunday night, but officials said the blaze gutted the inside of the building. It's unclear what sparked the fire. No injuries were reported.About 30 firefighters from Longview, Woodland and Cowlitz County responded. Kalama police is leading an investigation into the fire.
