PORTLAND, Ore. -- Two men were arrested and 19 people have been indicted after a four-day drug crackdown in downtown Portland, police said. The operation ran during the first week of October.During the sting, police said they used informants to buy drugs. Video captured the transactions, police said, and the officers took the evidence to a grand jury, which handed out the 19 secret indictments.Arrests were made on the East Bank Esplanade, in Waterfront Park and in Old Town.Police have publicly named two men accused of drug dealing. Kevin Bridges was arrested on suspicion of possession and delivery of cocaine and Ronnie Eubanks was arrested on suspicion of possessing and delivering heroin.Police said they expect the still-secret indictments will result in more arrests. The mission was launched, police commanders said, because of complaints from business owners and residents. One Old Town businessman said he's seeing results from the police action."We're working hard to get it better," said Ahmed Rmidi. Some people walking along Waterfront Park said they're happy police increased drug patrols."You're drawn to the water area, and I think it should be a pretty clean, nice experience for the average person and for families," said John Kessler.
