A two-alarm fire destroyed a house in Forest Grove on Thursday night.

Fire investigators said people were inside the house, located on the 3300 block of Valley Crest Way, at the time of the fire and smelled smoke coming from the garage.

They escaped and no one was injured.

In the garage, fire investigators said there were barrels that appeared to be part of a bio-diesel manufacturing process.

Neighbors living nearby said they heard a loud explosion and saw flames shooting from the garage. The fire quickly spread to the rest of the house.

"(I) just heard a loud explosion. He had barrels that were closest to garage right here and they just exploded in a matter of seconds," said Isela Hostynek, who lives across the street.

Once fire crews arrived, they reported hearing small explosions coming from the garage.

It took fire crews more than an hour to put out the fire.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. Firefighters said the home is a total loss.
