PORTLAND, Ore. -- A fire at a southeast Portland home Tuesday morning killed three pets and resulted in an injury to a firefighter.Portland Fire & Rescue Lt. Allen Oswalt said the home on Southeast 76th Avenue was fully engulfed in flames before firefighters arrived at the scene at about 5 a.m.All of the people inside the home escaped before crews arrived, but two cats and a small dog perished in the fire. Two other dogs were able to escape, Oswalt said.Crews were able to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading. Investigators sifted through the rubble and determined that combustibles too close to a baseboard heater sparked the fire, which caused an estimated $80,000 in damage.Officials said one of the 20 firefighters at the scene was operating a saw on the roof of the home when he cut himself in the leg. He was taken to Portland Adventist Hospital to be treated.Slideshow: SE Portland Fire Kills 3 Pets
