A $5,000 reward is being offered for information in connection with a man investigators say robbed seven Portland banks and two businesses.

FBI officials said the "Fantasia Bandit," nicknamed because he robbed a Fantasy For Adults Only store twice, started the string of robberies in late September.

Most recently, the robber hit MBank in northeast Portland at about 1:50 p.m. Tuesday.

The FBI said the bandit hasn't shown a weapon, but threatened to kill the bank teller.

The robberies associated with the "Fantasia Bandit" include:
  • Sept. 27 – Fantasy For Adults Only, 1512 W. Burnside St.
  • Sept. 29 – US Bank, 900 SW 6th Ave.
  • Oct. 3 – Fantasy For Adults Only, 1512 W. Burnside St.
  • Oct. 4 – Dotty's, 11955 N. Center St.
  • Oct. 5 – NW Resource Federal Credit Union, 221 NW 2nd Ave.
  • Oct. 23 – Key Bank, 444 SW 5th Ave.
  • Oct. 24 – Wells Fargo, 8334 N. Denver Ave.
  • Oct. 30 – Bank Of The West, 905 NE Halsey St.
  • Oct. 31 – Wells Fargo, 4233 NE Sandy Blvd.
  • Nov. 3 – MBank, 3636 NE Broadway

Authorities described the robber as white, 35 to 45 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, 180 to 200 pounds and with brown hair.

His clothing varies, but he always wears a baseball cap. During one robbery, he wore a sweatshirt with "silver stein" on it. Another time, his sweatshirt said "CCCP."

The robber also wears dark sunglasses.

One Portland man said he thinks people are driven to crime because of the economy.

"That's pretty brave, you know, blatant right in the middle of the day," said Duane Otterson. "I just think the economy is killing people. People are going into desperate times and doing desperate things."

But not everyone is so understanding.

"The economy, they blame it on, but there's no reason. We're hurting, too. We're financially hurting, but we're not going out and stealing, robbing and pillaging," said Dion Ward, who lives in Portland.

The Oregon Financial Institutions Security Task Force is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the "Fantasia Bandit"

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI in Portland or Portland police.
