High Wind Warning Issued For Coast

A high wind warning is in effect on the Oregon Coast, where gusts of up to 60 mph are expected on the headlands and open beaches.

The National Weather Service said the gusty south winds will continue through the afternoon and the winds will increase as a cold front draws closer to land.

Between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., south winds will gust 50-60 mph, according to National Weather Service forecasters. The cold front will move on shore at about 7 p.m. with winds easing afterward.

A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected and that sustained wind may lead to property damage.

No damaging wind is expected in the Portland metro area, but FOX 12 meteorologist Stephanie Kralevich said wind gusts could surpass 30 mph.

People visiting Seaside said the wind is a big change from earlier this week, when the weather was unseasonable warm, but it's just part of the Oregon coast's charm.

"I think it's beautiful. You've got these big waves crashing in all white. You can't beat it," said Duddy Blake, who is from Vancouver.
