PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland Mayor Sam Adams discussed upcoming improvements to a deadly intersection in southeast Portland on Monday.A car struck and killed Lindsay Leonard on Nov. 1 as she walked across Southeast Foster Road at 80th Avenue. Her roommate, Jessica Finlay, was also hit and was critical condition as of Monday.Adams said improved street lighting and trimmed trees and shrubbery will help drivers and pedestrians see each other."Moving of newspaper boxes, eliminating some display advertising, a phone booth; all of which make it harder for cars to see pedestrians and pedestrians to see cars. So, those are some short-term things. We're also looking at the issues of lighting to make sure we have the brightest lights we can possibly install," Adams said.Adams said he's been to that intersection and other dangerous crossings before to talk about needed improvements. The backlog of needed road repair and improvement projects has approached half a billion dollars, he said.
