Boy Reported Missing Found Safe

A 9-year-old boy reported missing in the Banks area was found safe Wednesday night.

Joseph Schneider and his family were visiting friends at a house on Gheen Road in Manning when he went for a walk and didn't return, said Washington County sheriff's deputies.

Schneider's parents became worried and started to look for him. They later called the sheriff's office, which sent search and rescue teams to the area.

Shortly after midnight and nine hours after the boy was last seen, a neighbor riding an ATV found Schneider about 2 miles away from where he was last seen. He was next to a logging road and came out when he heard the ATV, said Sgt. David Thompson in a sheriff's office news release.

Schneider wasn't injured. He was cold, but otherwise unharmed, deputies said.

At the time he was found, the boy was wearing two T-shirts and blue jeans in rain and 40-degree weather.
