SALEM, Ore. -- A 22-year-old woman was beaten, tied up and kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend before he fatally shot himself in front of a deputy Monday, Marion County detectives said.Brittany Caudle told investigators 50-year-old Mickey Jarrell attacked her, tied her up and drove them to The Dalles and then back to Salem. During the ordeal, Jarrell confessed to several armed robberies, deputies said.Caudle had recently broken up with Jarrell, deputies said, and went to his northwest Salem house at about 10:30 a.m. to pick up her belongings.Jarrell told her he wouldn't be at the house, which the couple used to share, but was hiding in the garage and attacked her, sheriff's deputies said.Caudle said the two struggled for 25 minutes."He started punching my stomach, picking me up and slamming me into the ground, slamming me into the dresser, just trying to knock me out," she said.Caudle blacked out and, when she woke up, saw her hands and feet were bound with zip ties. Her mouth was also covered in duct tape, deputies said.Jarrell then put her in the back of her Jeep and drove to a strip mall on Center Street. He transferred her to the trunk of his car, which had been parked in the parking lot, and threw Caudle's cell phone into the bushes, detectives said. While in the trunk, deputies said Caudle used a screwdriver she found in the back of her car to free her hands.About 10 minutes later, deputies said Jarrell stopped in a rural area and let her out of the trunk but rebound her hands with zip ties.He then placed her in the front seat of the car and secured the zip ties together with a padlock and tied her to the seat, investigators said.Jarrell covered Caudle with blankets and pillows and drove toward Woodburn.Caudle told deputies they drove on Interstate 84 to The Dalles and, while driving, Jarrell confessed to several armed robberies. Deputies said they believe he is linked to robberies at the Woodburn Outlet Mall and an Old Navy clothing store in Lincoln City.Jarrell also bragged about making bombs and bomb supplies, Caudle told detectives. At one point, Jarrell said he wanted Caudle to be in a relationship with him again and she took advantage of the situation."He asked me, 'If we turn around and go back to Salem, can we make this work?' And, of course, I'm thinking, 'You're insane.' But I say, 'Yeah, we'll make it work. You want to be Bonnie and Clyde, we'll do it.' He said we need to rob a couple places so we have money," Caudle said.On the way back, Jarrell took out a revolver and removed all but one bullet. He said he was saving the round for himself if he was confronted by the police, investigators said.Jarrell dropped Caudle off at her Jeep and told her to follow him back to his house. She followed for a short distance, deputies said, and then made a sharp turn and went back to the shopping mall where she called 911 from a fabric store at about 4:30 p.m.A deputy went to Jarrell's house, saw him backing out of the garage and ordered him to stop.Detectives said Jarrell got out of the car and held the revolver to his head. The deputy continued to tell Jarrell to drop the gun but he refused and shot himself, deputies said.Caudle was taken to a hospital where she was treated for injuries and released. She said women in danger should never stop fighting."That's just it -- you don't give up or give in. I'm 100 pounds, he was way bigger than I am, but I still managed to do it," she said. The investigation is ongoing.Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
