A teacher at a Linn County school was arrested Tuesday on charges she shared an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old boy.

Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller said an investigation revealed 34-year-old Jenifer Stitzel kissed the boy and had other inappropriate contact at Central Valley Christian School and away from the school as well.

Mueller said deputies launched their investigation Sunday when the boy's parents discovered text messages containing sexual content.

Stitzel is a preschool teacher at the school and the teenage boy is a student. The Central Valley Christian School, located on Highway 34, houses students from preschool to ninth grade.

Stitzel was taken into custody on two counts of third-degree sex abuse, which is a class A misdemeanor. She has been released from jail and will appear in court Dec. 23.

The head of the Central Valley Christian School said he had no comment about the charges.

No one answered at Stitzel's home in Albany on Wednesday.

Neighbors said Stitzel lives there with her husband and two young boys.

"It is pretty bizarre. When you add it up with her, it doesn't add up. She is, like I said, a good Christian woman and a good mother," said Debbie Thomas. "That doesn't make any sense to me. It doesn't suit her. It doesn't go with her."
