Locksmith Helps Capture Burglary Suspect

VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A Vancouver locksmith is getting the credit for catching a burglary suspect Wednesday.Deputies said Scott Petersen was on the run when he passed Curly's Lock & Key.Kevin Bryan said he saw the man go running by his shop just before noon."He was running with a purpose and looking behind him and so on. And I knew he was up to no good," Bryan said.Bryan said he followed Petersen behind the shop and saw him trying to climb over a fence.Bryan yelled at him to stop and said Petersen then reached for a folding knife."He had it in his hand and he was ready to flick it open when I kicked it out of his hand. And I grabbed him and I threw him down on the ground right over here," Bryan said.Bryan and a co-worker held down Petersen until sheriff's deputies arrived and arrested him."Well, you know, just another day in the life of a locksmith," Bryan said.Deputies said Petersen was on the run after trying to break into a car down the street.Petersen was booked into the Clark County Jail on charges of theft, trespassing and assault.
