A Vernonia woman was injured when her car slid down a 40-foot embankment and landed upside down in a creek, state troopers said.

Becky Abney, 46, was driving south on Highway 47 near milepost 66 at about 5:40 a.m. Tuesday when she lost control of her car on snow and ice, said Oregon State Police Sgt. Larry Lucas

Her car slid down the embankment and flipped in about 4 feet of water, Lucas said.

Abney was able to climb out and onto land, where she was spotted by emergency personnel.

She was taken to a Portland hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Troopers said Abney was wearing a seatbelt.

No citations were issued.

Highway 47 was restricted to one lane for about two hours during the investigation.
