William Mazie Sentenced To 20 Years At State Hospital

OREGON CITY, Ore. -- A stabbing victim's brother-in-law has been found guilty by reason of insanity and sentenced to 20 years at a state hospital.William Mazie was convicted of first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon late last month. He was sentenced to 20 years at the Oregon State Hospital.The convictions stem from an October stabbing at a home in the 1700 block of 16th Street in Oregon City. Police said they found Randall Smith suffering from multiple stab wounds. The kitchen knife used in the attack was still stuck in his back, officers said.Smith told officers he was attacked in his sleep. He was taken to Oregon Health & Science University hospital and made a full recovery.Mazie was taken into custody a few blocks from home.
