WILSONVILLE, Ore. -- A tracking application on a stolen iPhone led Wilsonville police to a suspected thief Wednesday. The victim, Stephanie Davies, said she was working at Financial Services Group on Southwest Miley Road when 19-year-old Rickie George approached the front counter and asked for directions to a nearby motel.Clackamas County deputies said George asked her to draw a map and, while she was distracted, he grabbed her iPhone from the counter and fled.Later, Davies remembered her family purchased a tracking program from AT&T called Family Map. It allows family members to locate each other by viewing a map."We got (the application) for my kids. I didn't think I'd be using to track my own phone but it'll tell you exactly where your own phone is within 50 yards," Davies said.Davies was able to track her stolen iPhone to a Motel Six in the area. Davies and several Wilsonville police officers found George and her stolen iPhone in a motel room.Less than two hours after the theft, George was in custody and Davies had her phone back."I felt a little silly about my phone being taken, but I said, 'I know where it's at. I have tracking,'" Davies said.Ken Westin, who runs a local company that develops software similar to the Family Map application, said the technology is becoming popular."It's a hard day and age to be a thief, that's for sure," Westin said.Davies said her program costs about $14 a month.Deputies believe George is a transient who was traveling through the area.
