A bullet hole in the ceiling of a southeast Portland apartment led to a woman's arrest on unrelated charges, police said.

Portland police were called to the 2600 block of Southeast 174th Avenue at noon Thursday to investigate a report of a bullet that was shot through the floor of an apartment into the unit directly below.

A man who lives in the apartment said the bullet came within a few feet of hitting one person.

Police tried to get the woman in the upstairs apartment to come out but she wouldn't leave, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Officers said they then opened the apartment door and found Catrina Cardenas inside. She was arrested on outstanding felony warrants.

Bill Ferguson said he was in the downstairs apartment when the shot was fired.

"You hear a loud bang and I know the sounds of guns and it was a gun. And there was a hole … in our ceiling and in our wall," Ferguson said.

The investigation is on-going, police said.
