Hazel Dell Standoff Ends In Woman's Arrest

HAZEL DELL, Wash. -- A standoff that sent a Vancouver high school into lockdown Friday ended with a woman being taken into custody, deputies said.Clark County deputies said a SWAT team was called to a Hazel Dell home where a suicidal woman, who had barricaded herself inside, had access to weapons. The woman's husband brought out a handgun when police arrived at about 1 p.m., but a rifle and shotgun remained inside, according to the sheriff's office.The incident began when a man told deputies his wife took pills to overdose and said she would shoot police if they came to the house, located near Northwest 102nd Avenue and Third Street.She was subdued by a Taser, deputies said, and taken to a hospital for mental evaluation and treatment for a possible drug overdose.Students at Columbia River High School were held until police cleared the scene. Sacajawea Elementary School was also placed in modified lockdown.
