Mom Accused Of Poisoning 3 Children

Woman Faces Several Charges

POSTED: 7:28 am PDT September 14, 2006

Police in Ohio said a woman has been charged with lacing her children's food with anti-psychotic medication.

Theresa Fennell, 34, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Lorain Municipal Court and is being held without bond in Lorain County Jail. Police said she's charged with three counts of corrupting another with drugs and three counts of contaminating a substance for human consumption.

The children, ages 4, 9 and 13, were taken to a Cleveland hospital after suffering from what was believed to be drug overdoses. Her children remained hospitalized.

Officials said Fennell took her children to an Amherst emergency room Tuesday afternoon. Police said authorities then went to her house and found the medication.

Police said the woman had been planning the poisoning, WEWS-TV in Cleveland reported. Officials said they found several bottles of medication on the dining room table at the children's home. A white pill commonly used to treat mental illness was also found, according to WEWS.

Pills and a computer were confiscated from the home.

Family members said Fennell suffers from depression.
