Matt Smith is a sports anchor and reporter at KPTV, and hosts "Oregon Sports Final" every Sunday night at 11 p.m.

Matt was born in the suburbs of Washington D.C., but he and his family lived everywhere from Biloxi, Miss. to Oxford, England. Needless to say, he’s comfortable in a variety of social situations.

After graduating from West Virginia University with a business degree, Matt was supposed to get a job. Instead, he opted for a career in sports. His first assignment: Eureka, Calif. Matt spent 2 years at Eureka’s CBS affiliate, KVIQ, covering a slew of alternative sports.

From there, he had a 4 year run at KSBW, the NBC affiliate in Monterey. His highlight was a free round of golf at Pebble Beach -- just 8 months after he started playing. After shooting a 138 at Pebble, Matt decided it was time for a change of scenery.

In 2003, Matt arrived in Portland and he’s here to stay. He says there’s no better city in this country. After all, where else does the sports beat include NBA basketball, rollerderby, and log rolling?
