Buffalo RB Lynch Loses License In Hit-And-Run Case

POSTED: 5:55 pm PDT June 27, 2008

(Sports Network) - Buffalo running back Marshawn Lynch's guilty plea to his involvement in a May 31 hit-and-run accident was accepted on Friday. Lynch lost his driver's license and was fined the maximum of $100.

In the incident, Lynch's 2008 Porsche Cayenne struck a pedestrian in downtown Buffalo and then fled the scene. The woman was left with minor injuries.

On Friday, Lynch finally admitted that he was the driver of the vehicle, which was impounded after being found by police. But, Lynch said that at the time of the accident, he did not believe he struck anyone with his SUV.

"When I was making a left turn from Chippewa (Street) onto Delaware Avenue a woman came into the road," Lynch said in a statement through his attorney. "This woman was dancing and spinning around in the crosswalk. I slowed down for her and when she went by I proceeded down Delaware Avenue. I was not speeding and at no time struck the woman who was dancing and spinning. I also never heard, saw or felt anything else that would lead me to believe that I had struck anyone else or anything else at that time."

However, on Friday Lynch admitted that it appeared his car had struck the woman, Kimberly Shpeley.

"At this time, I would like to put this matter behind everyone involved and focus on the future," Lynch said.

Lynch, a first-round draft pick of the Bills in 2007, rushed for 1,115 yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie season.

"My greatest concerns and well wishes are of course for Ms. Shpeley," Lynch said. "However, I also wish to apologize to my teammates, the entire Buffalo Bills organization and the Buffalo fans for this unfortunate accident."
