Jags OL Williams Leaves With Injury

POSTED: 10:18 pm PDT August 28, 2008

(Sports Network) - Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Maurice Williams left Thursday's 24-3 preseason victory over the Washington Redskins due to a right knee injury.

Williams had his right leg bent awkwardly under a pile of players on a second quarter running play and was ushered off the field by team trainers.

The Michigan product was picked in the second round by the Jaguars in the 2001 draft and started 85 games at right tackle over his first six NFL seasons before being replaced by free agent Tony Pashos in 2007.

Williams slid over to right guard halfway through last season, starting the final eight games of the year after incumbent starter Chris Naeole went down with a season-ending knee injury. Naeole was released by the Jaguars in the off-season and the club re-signed Williams, paving the way for the 29-year- old to inherit the starting job this season.

Jags backup defensive tackle Jonathan Lewis also left the game in the fourth quarter with a left knee sprain.
