Jags Handle Washington In Preseason Finale

POSTED: 8:12 pm PDT August 28, 2008

(Sports Network) - David Garrard, Cleo Lemon and Todd Bouman each tossed a touchdown pass as Jacksonville gained 339 yards of offense in a 24-3 victory over the Washington Redskins, in the final preseason tuneup for both teams.

Garrard completed 5-of-8 passes while also throwing a pick in limited action. Lemon took over for Garrard and was 10-of-13 for 97 yards while Bouman played the second half and was 6-of-10 passing for 105 yards for the Jaguars (3-1). Rookie Chauncey Washington gained 68 yards on 11 attempts as the tailback tandem of Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor were given the night off, while Troy Williamson hauled in four passes for 84 yards and a fourth-quarter TD from Bouman.

Jason Campbell and the Redskins (3-2) offense sputtered through the opening quarter with Campbell beginning the game with an interception on the first play from scrimmage before going on to complete one of four pass attempts. Colt Brennan took over in the second and finished 13-of-18 for 119 yards. Marcus Mason ran for 64 yards on 17 attempts while Clinton Portis had the night off.

The pass rush was effective for both defensive squads as each team registered four sacks on the night.

Garrard was under center for a majority of the first quarter and led Jacksonville to the game's opening tally, tossing a three-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Williams midway through the first quarter.

Lemon took over late in the first and opened the second stanza by finishing off a 69-yard, 13-play drive, hitting Greg Estandia with a four-yard fade to the back right corner of the end zone for a 14-0 Jags lead.

Shaun Suisham notched a 46-yard field goal on the ensuing possession for Washington but Josh Scobee split the uprights from 30 yards out to put the Jags in front 17-3 at the half.

The teams played to a stalemate in the third but the Jags opened up a 24-3 lead when Bouman connected with Williamson for a 51-yard touchdown up the left sideline with just under three minutes into the final stanza.

The Jaguars will open their 2008 season with a visit to Tennessee to take on the Titans September 7, while the Redskins kick off the NFL season September 4 in New York against the defending Super Bowl-champion Giants.
