Buffalo Bills 2009 NFL Draft Review

(Sports Network) -

1 - Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn State (6-4, 250); 1 - Eric Wood, C, Louisville (6-4, 310); 2 - Jairus Byrd, CB, Oregon (5-10, 207); 2 - Andy Levitre, OL, Oregon State (6-3, 305); 4 - Shawn Nelson, TE, Southern Miss (6-5, 240); 5 - Nic Harris, SS, Oklahoma (6-2, 234); 6 - Cary Harris, CB, USC (5-11, 187); 7 - Ellis Lankster, CB, West Virginia (5-9, 190)

Analysis: Pass rusher was undoubtedly the Bills' biggest need before they dealt Jason Peters, at which time it was thought that Buffalo would select the best offensive tackle on the board. Instead, Buffalo passed over Ole Miss' Michael Oher to take Maybin, who is a bit undersized but has good pass-rushing instincts. Then, at No. 28, the Bills again ignored the likes of Arizona's Eben Britton to select Wood, an interior lineman who few rated as a first- round talent. The selection of Byrd in the second round will help make up for the free agent defection of Jabari Greer (Saints), and though Levitre isn't a left tackle candidate, he was rated by many as the best pure guard in the Draft. Nelson was rated by some as a second-round possibility and might be an immediate starter. The team's final three picks, all secondary players, will try to fit in on special teams.

Bottom Line: Picked up some solid players, but their inability to find a left tackle to replace Peters could have terrible consequences for the offense.

Grade: C+
