Seattle Seahawks 2009 NFL Draft Review

(Sports Network) -

1 - Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest (6-2, 254); 2 - Max Unger, C, Oregon (6-5, 309); 3 - Deon Butler, WR, Penn State (5-10, 182); 6 - Mike Teel, QB, Rutgers (6-3, 225); 7 - Courtney Greene, S, Rutgers (6-0, 212); 7 - Nick Reed, DE/OLB, Oregon (6-1, 245); 7 - Cameron Morrah, TE, Cal (6-3, 244)

Analysis: The Seahawks brain trust of GM Tim Ruskell and head coach Jim Mora had to be doing cartwheels when the Chiefs passed up Curry at No. 3, as he fits an immediate need for a team that recently shipped Julian Peterson to Detroit. Many believed Curry was the best defensive player in the Draft. The Seahawks traded up to No. 49 in order to pick Unger, who can play anywhere on the line and will have a chance to start from day one on the interior line. The need for a receiving complement to T.J. Houshmandzadeh may have been found in Butler, a prototypical slot receiver whose stock shot up following the combine. The Hawks finally took a quarterback in the sixth round, passing over the likes of John Parker Wilson and Graham Harrell to draft Teel. The major need Seattle failed to fill was at tackle, where Walter Jones is coming off of microfracture surgery and is a question mark.

Bottom Line: Offensive line, running back, and secondary (until the seventh round) all went begging, but Hawks' first three picks should make them a better team.

Grade: B-
