POSTED: 12:54 pm PDT August 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Buffalo Sabres re-signed defenseman Teppo Numminen to a one-year contract Friday.

Numminen, who had surgery done to repair a faulty heart valve in September of 2007, returned to play in Buffalo's regular season finale against the Boston Bruins last season.

In three seasons with Buffalo, Numminen has scored 69 points in 155 regular season games.

Over 20 NHL seasons, Numminen has amassed 620 points on 115 goals and 505 assists. His 1,315 regular-season NHL games are the most ever by a European NHL player.
