Former MLS Striker Ngwenya On Trial With Bayern

POSTED: 11:56 am PDT July 2, 2008

(Sports Network) - Striker Joseph Ngwenya, who played in Major League Soccer from 2004-08, is on a three-week trial with Germany's Bayern Munich.

Ngwenya, 27, will train with the Bundesliga champion and could be signed to a contract at the end of the trial.

Bayern Munich has just three strikers - Miroslav Klose, Lukas Podolski and Luca Toni - on its roster and the season opener is just over a month away.

Ngwenya played for the Los Angeles Galaxy, Columbus Crew and Houston Dynamo in MLS. He played in 29 matches, including 27 starts, for two-time defending MLS champion Houston last season.

Ngwenya had eight goals, including one in the MLS Cup, and five assists last season for the Dynamo. He left Houston to sign with Austrian club Karnten, but made just one appearance.

Ngwenya was recently named to Zimbabwe's team for 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
