Jeremy Wariner won two gold medals at the 2004 Athens Games, taking first in the 400m and the 4x400m relay. His victory in the 400m led a 1-2-3 sweep for the American men. Wariner became the first athlete to win the 400m at NCAA indoor and outdoor championships, the U.S. Championships and the Olympics.
Wariner is a two-time world champion in the 400m and the 4x400m, winning the events in 2005 and 2007. He won the 400m in 43.93 seconds, allowing him to join Americans Lee Evans, Michael Johnson, Harry "Butch" Reynolds, Larry James, Quincy Watts, Danny Everett and Steve Lewis as the only athletes to break the 44-second mark. Wariner was a U.S. outdoor champion in 2004 and 2005, and was crowned the NCAA indoor and outdoor champion in 2004.
The American can be spotted on the track by his signature diamond earrings and sunglasses that he wears whenever he competes -- even at night. Wariner, who turned professional after the 2004 Athens Games, is coached by Baylor University's Clyde Hart, who also trained five-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson. Wariner didn't start competing in track and field until he was a sophomore at Lamar High School (Arlington, Texas), but he became a quick success, winning the Texas state high school championship in the 200m and 400m.
