No. 20 UCLA Subdues Oregon

POSTED: 4:45 pm PST March 7, 2009

(Sports Network) - Josh Shipp had a game-high 28 points and added six rebounds as 20th-ranked UCLA thrashed Oregon, 94-68.

However, the Bruins (24-7, 13-5 Pac-10) saw their hopes for a share of the Pac-10 regular season conference title dashed as Washington defeated Washington State, 67-60, to take first place in the conference.

Darren Collison had 19 points while Alfred Aboya and Nikola Dragovic each donated 10 points for UCLA, which closed out its regular season with four straight wins.

Drew Wiley had 18 points while LeKendric Longmire added 12 points for the Ducks (8-22, 2-16), who dropped their final two games of the regular season and finished in last place in the conference.

The game was tight through the first several minutes of the opening half, but three-balls from Longmire and Wiley, sandwiched by a Drew Gordon jumper, gave the Ducks a 24-20 lead with under 11 minutes to play in the first half.

For the next several minutes, the teams exchanged baskets, but the Bruins used a 10-0 run to take a 42-37 lead on a pair of free throws from Collison with a bit over two minutes remaining.

A Shipp three-pointer close to the buzzer helped UCLA take a 47-40 advantage into the locker room.

Oregon got the first bucket of the second half, but the Bruins responded with six consecutive points and Jrue Holiday made it a 53-42 game a bit over three minutes in.

The Ducks got back into the contest with a 7-0 run and Matthew Humphrey's three-ball made it a 55-51 game with 14 minutes left.

However, Collison scored the next five points to spark a 12-0 run and UCLA took control of the game as Michael Roll's jumper made it 67-51 with under 11 minutes to play.

Oregon never made a game of it over the remainder of the contest as UCLA continued to expand on its lead for the win.

Game Notes

UCLA leads the series, 81-25...Oregon shot just 38.8 percent in the game while UCLA hit a blistering 56.9 percent of its shots and controlled the boards, 43-23.
