CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico -- Two Portland State University basketball players were detained for their role in a spring break fight in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.Jeremiah Dominguez, a 5-foot-6 guard, and Scott Morrison, a 6-foot-11 center, were part of a Vikings team that made its first NCAA tournament in school history.PSU released a statement Tuesday that said the pair was being held in Mexico.Mexican officials said Morrison severely beat up a Michigan man Friday night when the man wouldn't let them into a VIP section of a club. Dominguez was being held because he ran from police. An Associated Press reporter went to the police holding area where the two were behind bars. They declined comment. Center Scott Morrison blocked his face when the reporter tried to photograph him. They were seated on a cement bench in a cell with five Mexican prisoners and had no apparent wounds on their hands. Police arrested both men early Monday, said municipal police commander Alonso Valencia Cabrales. "The altercation took place in a tourist area in front of the Zoo disco," Valencia said. "The two were arrested and are under the jurisdiction of the Public Ministry where they are accused of damages."According to the U.S. Consulate's Office in Cabo San Lucas, no charges have been filed. The Oregonian reported Wednesday that the two players have been released from jail and a deal has been made with the family of the victim to cover medical costs.School officials said they are awaiting reliable information before taking action. They said they will "respond appropriately once we have confirmed information regarding the charges.""We are surprised and disappointed in the acts and poor judgment our student athletes have shown in this situation," said Torre Chisholm, PSU Director of Athletics. "Prior to this, they conducted themselves in a positive manner within our program. I am disheartened to see them put themselves in such a bad position."Dominguez led South Salem High School to a state title in 2004. His college basketball career started at the University of Portland, where he ran into academic problems and transferred.Morrison is a senior from Vancouver, B.C.Related:
