PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Livestrong Challenge returned to Portland on Sunday for its fourth year.More than 3,000 people, including Tour De France champ Lance Armstrong, biked, walked or ran to support the fight against cancer. The cyclists and runners hit the streets at the Nike World Headquarters."The reality is that this is the No. 1 killer in this country," Armstrong said. "Myself, the rest of the organization, you guys and gals want to see this disease eliminated."Whether they were a cancer survivor or knew someone who fought the battle, everyone had their own reason to take part in the race.Matthias Molnar, like Armstrong, was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer. He also sought treatment by the same doctor.Molnar said he saw people around him giving up hope, but he was determined to beat his cancer."I survived eight months. Last Wednesday, I received my best news," Molnar said. "(I'm) cancer-free."Organizers said Armstrong considers Portland his home away from home, not only because of the Nike sponsorship of his foundation, but because Portland is such a bike-friendly city. They also expected to raise $1 million from Sunday's event, bringing the total to $4.5 million raised in Portland over the last four years.
