POSTED: 4:33 pm PDT March 13, 2009

(Sports Network) - University of Oregon head football coach Mike Bellotti has resigned his post to become the school's next athletic director, the school announced on Friday.

Bellotti will become the athletic director on July 1. Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly will take over as the new head coach on March 30.

In the interim, Bellotti will serve as a senior counselor to current athletic director Pat Kilkenny.

Bellotti has been the head coach for the Ducks since the 1995 season, compiling a total record of 116-55 at Oregon, including 12 bowl appearances in 14 seasons. His bowl record is 6-6, and the Ducks finished second in the country after going 11-1 in the 2001 season, including a win in the Fiesta Bowl over Colorado.

Oregon finished 10-3 in 2008 and 10th in the country after a win over Oklahoma State in the Holiday Bowl.

Kelly has served as the Ducks' offensive coordinator the past two seasons after a 13-year stint on New Hampshire's coaching staff in different offensive capacities. He has also coached with Columbia and Johns Hopkins, and this will be his first head coaching job.
