Lions Acquire Peterson From Seahawks For Redding

(Sports Network) - The Lions and Seahawks swapped defensive players on Saturday, with Detroit acquiring linebacker Julian Peterson from Seattle in exchange for defensive tackle Cory Redding.

Detroit also sent Seattle a fifth-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft to complete the transaction.

Peterson spent the past three seasons with the Seahawks, registering 24 1/2 sacks with three interceptions and 249 tackles. He had 86 tackles with five sacks in 16 games last season.

A five-time Pro Bowl pick, Peterson played the first six years of his NFL career with San Francisco. The 49ers made the Michigan State product the 16th overall pick of the 2000 NFL Draft.

Peterson has accumulated 597 tackles and 46 sacks with eight interceptions in nine seasons.

Redding was a third-round pick by the Lions in the 2003 draft. He became a starter in 2004 and has started every game he has played since.

The Texas product appeared in 13 games last season and finished with 38 tackles and three sacks. He has 200 tackles and 16 sacks in his six-year NFL career.
