A former University of Oregon quarterback who pleaded guilty to burglary charges said he never stole anything but admitted to lying about where he was, according to a new Sports Illustrated article.

Jeremiah Masoli is the focus of the article titled, "The Lie: The Untold Story Of Jeremiah Masoli's Downfall At Oregon."

The potential Heisman Trophy candidate was kicked off the team after he was cited during a June traffic stop. Police said they found Masoli's driver's license was suspended and discovered less than one ounce of marijuana in the car.

"I was driving and I have taken responsibility for the citation," he told the magazine.

Masoli had already been suspended by Coach Chip Kelly for the 2010 season in March after he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges from the burglary incident at a fraternity house.

In the article, Masoli explains why he lied to his family, coaches and police about being at the frat house the night of the incident.

"I just didn't want to affiliate myself with anything like robbery or anything that had to do with that because I had been though it all already. I had been through that whole ordeal already," he said.

The article explains Masoli faced a year of probation for pleading guilty to second-degree burglary versus up to a few years in prison for a conviction.

In 2005, Masoli was charged with robbery -- something he claimed he wasn't involved in.

"Those same records indicated that Masoli was not the instigator in the robbery and didn't say anything to the victim," according to the article.

Masoli has one season of collegiate eligibility remaining. There are reports he was accepted to graduate school at the University of Mississippi and the Rebels' coaching staff is deciding whether they want him on the team.
