Jim Hyde grew up just outside of Chicago in Argo, Ill. He was a Husky before coming to the Northwest; a real Fighting Husky of Northern Illinois University, where he graduated in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in English.

After working five years as a teacher in Colorado, Jim took his first broadcasting job in radio with KSPN-FM in Aspen in 1974. From there he joined KREX TV in Grand Junction and later KKTV in Colorado Springs as a reporter and anchor.

Jim anchored the "11 O'Clock News" at KXLY in Spokane for a year, joined KATU in Portland in 1979, and came to KPTV in 1992.

He's covered some of the northwest's biggest stories: the eruption of Mount St. Helens, the coming of the Rajneeshees to central Oregon, and ongoing battles over environmental and resource issues. He's won five best news or feature-writing annual awards from The Associated Press in Oregon.

When not working as a journalist Jim enjoys running, tennis, reading, backpacking, and cooking. He'd like to have more time to spend with his wife Pam, daughter Stephanie, and son Connor.
