Burgerville restaurants have started printing calorie counts on receipts, allowing customers to see the price they pay on the scale when they pay for their meal.
The Northwest-based fast-food company prints personalized nutrition information about each order on cash register receipts.
If a customer orders a burger without mayonnaise, the calorie count will reflect that change and show the correct calorie total. The receipts also show the amount of protein, fat and carbohydrates in a customer's order.
Burgerville customer Breanna White ordered a $1.99 strawberry sundae Monday night. It had 340 calories, 14 grams of fat, 49 grams of carbohydrates and 1 gram of fiber.
"I like it that it tells you how much is in everything because usually it doesn't say. I think it's a cool little thing," she said.
The receipts feature a hint, such as "If you are trying to eat healthier, try 'holding the chipotle mayo' on your sandwich and save 180 calories and 18 grams of fat."
Burgerville first tested the program at a Portland restaurant on Martin Luther King Boulevard. It expanded to all 39 restaurants Tuesday.
So, what's the largest calorie count you'll find on Burgerville receipts? If you're ordering a large Northwest cherry chocolate milkshake, be prepared for the total: The milkshake weighs in at 1,360 calories.
