A new application available through a Portland-based company allows consumers to turn their iPad, iPhones and iTouches into an extra display monitor.
The app called Air Display was created by Avatron Software and is one of the top-grossing third-party apps on iTunes, company officials say.
The CEO of the company, Dave Howell, says the app was created to help consumers speed up day-to-day productivity.
This is one of those apps that actually helps people become better multi-taskers, he says.
Howell says Air Display runs wirelessly and can work with Mac OS X and PC units.
When the app is installed, consumers can plug their iPad or iPhone into a cradle that syncs up with the computers main screen.
So, its just like having two display monitors, Howell says. You can drag new windows over, have chat windows opened or e-mail on the iPads screen and work off that. Its really versatile.
While using the app on the iPad, consumers can still use the products touch-screen features.
Weve noticed that sometimes people start tapping on their laptop screens because they get so used to using the touch screen (on the iPad), Howell says.
Air Display works in both landscape and portrait modes and is available through the iTunes Apple Store for $9.99.
