Man Sets Fire In Woodburn Wal-Mart 3-30-2011

Woodburn police are searching for a man they say started a fire inside a Wal-Mart store Monday night.
Police say the man entered the store around 10:30 p.m. and made his way to the sporting goods department. He somehow set fire to a sleeping bag on a shelf, police said.
A customer saw the fire and reported it to an employee and then an employee knocked the smoldering bag to the floor and snuffed out the flames, police said. Around the same time, surveillance cameras show the man leaving the store and getting into a black Jeep SUV.
Police are investigating the motive. The fire didn’t appear to be a diversion for theft because nothing seems to be missing from the store.
The Wal-Mart sits right next to a residential neighborhood, where frequent customers are concerned about the danger posed by the fire.
“Sometimes I send my kids in there alone just to pick something up and that would be scary,” said Evelia Tamayo, who lives nearby. “It’s just bizarre. I can’t believe it.”
Woodburn police would like to hear from anyone with knowledge of the crime.
