Skamania deputies investigate logging death

Posted: Updated:

The Skamania County Sheriff's Office reports a man died when a logging skidder went off the road.

Deputies responded to the Swift Creek Reservoir area after getting a report of a fatal accident.

Workers of North Fork Resources told deputies they were moving logging equipment onto private land in the area about 10 miles southeast of Mount St. Helens.  They said a rubber-tired logging skidder went off the narrow logging road and rolled several times down a near vertical 250-foot embankment.

Deputies said 36-year-old James Schiefelbein of Vancouver, Wash. was ejected from the skidder he was operating and died.
