Washington Releases Stats On New Cell Phone Law

Posted: Updated:

Washington State Police stopped more than 15,000 drivers for violating new cell phone and texting laws in 2010.

Friday marks one year since Washington adopted a law that makes the use of handheld phones while driving a primary offense.

Troopers say from June 2009 to May 2010, they stopped more than 5,000 drivers for violating cell phone laws statewide. Only around 1,500 of those drivers were ticketed.

But over the last year, Washington State Police say troopers have ticketed more than 7,000 drivers.
