Oregon firefighters battle Arizona blaze

Posted: Updated:

A massive wildfire burning in the mountains of eastern Arizona is being fought by as many as 2,500 firefighters from across the county, including crews from Oregon.

The fire, which has grown to more than 360 square miles, is the third largest in Arizona history. Investigators believe a campfire sparked the blaze, which has been burning for just over one week.

Oregon firefighter Hector Herrera said, "It looks like some pretty extreme fire activity, but we're ready to go." The fire has caused massive evacuations and has cast a smoky haze over states as far away as Iowa.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has declared a state of emergency and pledged state money to cover the cost of fighting the fire.
